Talking To Girls
He’s forgotten how to talk to girls
and forgotten if he ever did know
how to talk to girls. He’d like
to talk to girls – if he knew how
As it is, if he tries, it all comes out
wrong. Stressy and messed up
and the girls – well, they’re women,
of course he knows that – they think
he’s all wrong. Because he doesn’t
have a clue how to talk to girls.
He’s forgotten, if he ever did know.
Or he’s not talking to the right one.
I’ll bet there are lots of chaps out there identifying with this one …
I like that thought! Of course I’ve always been hopeless at talking to boys…
I do feel sorry for men…
Aw… though better this sort than the overly smooth…
Oh, yes. It is the ones that know how to talk that we need to watch out for!
Have you written this about me
All the best people have our tongue-tied moments I think!
My moments are whenever I step out the door, my tongue is left behind or speaks as if it’s stuck in the letter box :-/
Awwww… sure it’s not that bad! I read a short story recently, think it was by Neil Gaimen, where a teenage boy goes to a party with his friend and it turns out that all the girls at the party are in fact aliens. Really sweet story and I suspect had some influence on this poem.
Sometimes… it is. That sounds like a good story though
It’s in his anthology “Fragile Things” – I’d tell you what the story is called but I’ve given my copy away!
I can probably get it from the library
I prefer one who isn’t sure how to go about it to one who is skilled in his own mind as to what he thinks we want to hear or at least what he wants us to believe.
Exactly! I am totally with you on that Lea.
hey me , me talk to me ( just had a sneaky you were writing this one from the point of view of one of great unseen women of this world!! ) Loved it.xxxxx
Thanks Willow.
oh i feel for him…
Me too Claudia, me too.
aww. I feel sorry for him too, even I know that us women can be intimidating
.
Thanks Francina – yes, much sympathy. We can be scary creatures!
I’ve always been crap talking to men too, so I sympathise with the poor bloke. Of course, if they need rescuing, THEN I’m very good at taking them in. I met a guy vaguely like this the other night, he was wearing a joker’s outfit he had made himself.
Ooooh, he sounds like just my type!
You nailed it, It is a knack easily lost
Isn’t it just… And yet, it’s the ones who struggle who generally have more interesting things to say, if they’d only dare…
probably not, if he thinks of her as a “girl”, still, huh?
That’s a good point Roland!
